             alittle shout-out to Doogie.
This is like the second time I'm blogging about your departure,
the first one being when you went to Nilai.
I tried to find the old blog post but I can't remember the old blog address. ha
Anyway, I still recall writing something about growing big and growing deep.
and you have grown BIGger since. So we'll see what happens next when you get back in Dec.

The English word meditate derives from a Latin word that means “to rehearse.” Often my prayers seem like a kind of rehearsal. I go over basic notes (the Lord’s Prayer), practice familiar pieces (the Psalms), and try out a few new tunes. Mainly, I show up. — Philip Yancey

hey Daniel,

Words need to be used sparingly. You may know that in the monastic tradition, the term "the Greater Silence"  is used to describe the time from the end of our night prayers, Compline, until our gathering for prayer 12 hours later.

During the "Greater Silence" we do not speak.

When this practise of the Greater Silence lifts in the morning, we practise what many monasteries have traditionally called a " Lesser Silence".

Its not that we don't speak during the day, but we speak with intention. Our "default" is to listen and then to speak if there is something to be said.

I am far from being completely faithful to this practice of intentionality and integrity with words, but I am learning.

My daily experience of the power of words-their power to build things up and break things down- is a near continual reminder to me, perhaps also to you, how important it is to bridle your tongue and to hone your ears. As we read in the epistle of James, " Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger."

I read this somewhere, that there are two things that will shape your life, that is the books that you read and the friends that you make.

I read Saladin, I read Dan Brown, I read Jeffrey Archer, I read BIll Bryson................................

but John Wesley once said, " I am a man of One book"

your mercy found me ,
upon the broken road ,
lifted me beyond my failing ,
into your glory ,
my sin and shame dissolved ,
and now forever yours i'll stand .
in love never to end ,
to call you more than Lord ,
Glorious Friend .
so I'll throw my life upon all that you are ,
'cause i know you gave it all for me ,
and when all else fades ,
my soul will dance with you ,
where the love lasts forever .
and forever i will sing ,
Lord forever i will sing ,
of how you gave your life away ,
just to save me , Lord you saved me .

Worrying .

worrying can be defined as negative meditation . we all have a choice as to what we want to think about , to dwell on . But , worrying comes naturally , at least to about 90 % of the world's population . Even a little kid has worries in life . What if my toy runs out of battery ?
So,  does worrying mean not thinking about whatever it is thats bothering us ? I don't think so . Not giving thought to something equates to laziness , because thinking requires effort whether or not we are conscious of it . Let me put it you ,  i would rather channel my energies into picturing the best outcome to whatever that is on mind as opposed to letting it wander . Wander it will , and its likely destination would be grim and hopeless . After all , don't we want more control over ourselves , our circumstances , our future ? Positive meditation is but our first step .

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

its is folly for us to expect men to do all that they are reasonalbly capable of doing .
zeal is fit for the wise but it is chiefly found among fools
all men want the truth to be on their side , but few on the side of truth
